THE PASEO FESTIVAL

STEMarts Lab partnered with The PASEO a festival dedicated to bringing the art of installation, performance and projection to the streets of Taos, New Mexico. The PASEO creates a new platform for the public display of art within the Taos Historic District.

From 2014-2019, the STEMarts@The PASEO Youth Program provided educational programming for our youth built around The PASEO festival and its visiting artists. We facilitated brigning local, national and international artists into the schools and students to the festival for engaging STEAM experiences such as classroom workshops, online curriculum tools, artist talks or internship opportunities.

As part of the STEMarts methodology, we encourage art and science teachers from each school to spearhead the project, integrating the STEM and arts into their school curriculum. To do this we design the STEMarts Curriculum Tool which provides background information on the artist and how they integrate STEM into their art, along with hands on STEAM activities to try out in the classroom. When they meet the artist the students have meaningful questions and understanding which deepens the experience for the student as well as the artist. This real-world collaboration exposes students to cutting edge technologies, critical thinking, creativity and innovation, building valuable 21st century skills.

Our Youth Program allows students to collaborate with festival artists exploring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) in their art making process. Students learn valuable STEAM skills through creative expression, social practice and collaboration. We believe that the challenge and potential of STEAM education is for all students to have access to the latest technologies and 21st century thinking, especially in rural areas with limited access. The PASEO is the perfect platform for local students and teachers to use these tools to play, explore and imagine a better world.
